Our Team

Jeff was called to the bar in 1994 after graduating from Queen's University law school. His practice focuses on litigation matters. Appearing at all levels of court in Ontario with success for his clients, up to and including the Court of Appeal for Ontario with Ryan v Sault Ste. Marie and Christensen v Family Counselling Centre, Jeff has a number of reported precedents to his credit. In addition, Jeff has taught upper-year law courses as an adjunct professor at Algoma University.

Committed, capable and compassionate, Jeff's client-centered approach is rooted in strong family values and social responsibility, nurtured by his parents and other family members, who were leading social justice advocates. As a child, in addition to other family members, inspiring Jeff as an advocate were his paternal grandmother Mary Broadbent, his father Dave Broadbent and uncle Ed Broadbent, all of whom worked to advocate for those who too often could not speak for themselves. Mary was involved as a volunteer in early advocacy and support work against violence against women and children and other similar interests. Dave was a union activist and founding member of the Canadian Auto Workers, and Ed was a member of Parliament and federal party leader.

Family continues today to shape Jeff's practice with the loving support and partnership of his wife Franca and their children Carly, Nicholas and Emma.

Living in Sault Ste. Marie since 1994, Jeff has an extensive history of volunteerism and continues to be actively so in the community.

Jeff understands the devastating impact an injury can have on individuals and their families. He also understands the vulnerability of injured persons and their families. In their most difficult time of need, they are too often confronted by less-than-sympathetic insurance companies with virtually unlimited resources, used not to compensate the injured so much as to maximize profits. As a strong advocate for the vulnerable, Jeff and his team will advance your case with determination, dedication and dignity, ensuring all is done to try to overcome the terrible damages suffered in an injurious occurrence.

Franca, Law Clerk, attended Lake Superior State University in the four-year Legal Assistant Studies Program. She has worked as a law clerk since 1998. 

Tara is Managing Director  of the team. She has brought her experience in administration and justice initiatives to the table since 2013.
